Description

The excitement of the author is palpable as he recounts his observation of one sign of spring after another. Readers are likely to be infected with his enthusiasm and take on some of the activities suggested in the Things To See, Things To Hear, and Things To Do chapters that are interspersed between accounts of wondrous happenings in spring in the great out of doors. Special emphasis is placed on the rewards to be gained by selecting and coming to know one particular place intimately.

As with the previous volumes in this series (THE FALL OF THE YEAR & WINTER), Dallas Lore Sharp offers a thoughtful, enthusiastic look at the natural world during one of the four seasons. Here he captures the freshness & green life force of Spring, with animals raising a new generation & the world bursting out in vivid, brilliant colors of grasses & wildflowers & blossoms wherever you look. Especially fascinating are the chapter son things to look for, things to listen for, and things to do during the season. And of course there's the empathetic description of living creatures, treating them as fellow resident of the Earth, with gentle admonishments to his younger readers to respect other animals & treat them with kindness & generosity. I'm pleased as can be with these reprints from Yesterday's Classics, and I eagerly await the final volume in this series, SUMMER. Meanwhile, this latest volume will continue to teach not only scientific facts about the natural world, but compassion & kinship with it as well. Most highly recommended!
