They are definitely water proof and they are very comfortable to wear. Though the top part of the shoe does not have any laces or zips, the shoe holds the leg tightly without coming out. The only concern I have with the shoes are they are little bit open on the top and there is nothing to close them and there is a chance that the the shoes might get wet if there is a heavy rain.I used them under my pants when it rained.Normally I wear a size 8, ordered a 9, which fit well. But the top opening was very wide. I sent them back because I want to use them for outdoor activities and I was worried I would get snow in my boots.
